Essentials Every Parent Needs In Their Backpack

As a parent, you have to be prepared for anything! Surprise spillage? Wipes and a spare pair of clothes.

Crying uncontrollably? Try their favourite toy, and probably some food.

When you’re packing for the day, it’s hard to prepare for every possible thing that could occur, so that’s why we have created a list of essentials that every parent should never leave the house without.

1. Things to keep them occupied

Kids always need to be doing something, or being played with, but when you’re out running errands, you don’t always have the time to be occupying them. That’s where little activities and games come in handy! Always pack a little something that will keep them entertained while you’re busy being a super hero parent!

2. Their “can’t-leave-the-house-without-it” Thing!

Every child has one. Whether it be a blankie, stuffed toy, or dummy, it is extremely important you put this 'thing' in your backpack every morning! This one 'thing' has the power to fix just about anything, and without it, you might as well admit defeat and go home straight away and try again tomorrow.

3. Medicine/First-Aid

Make sure you always have a band-aid handy, and if your child is on medication, bring it with you even if you don’t think you’ll need it. It’s super important that you are prepared for the worst, because you never know what could happen.

You can see @wuilychang has the right idea!

4. Change Mat

Accidents happen. Having a portable changing mat is super useful, as you can change and clean your child anywhere, anytime. They are also good for quick trips where you don’t necessarily need your full nappy bag.

5. Snacks/Bottles

Always, always, ALWAYS have something for your child to eat/drink. There’s nothing worse than a hungry child. Whether it be a packet of dried fruit, a muesli bar, popcorn or even some milk, always have something for your child to snack on while you’re busy out and about. Easy to pack snacks are not hard to find or make, and it saves you having to buy something while out. Saving money, and a tantrum!

6. Spare EVERYTHING

It’s important that you don’t run out of important things like nappies and cleaning supplies. You never know when a quick trip to the supermarket may turn into a sit down chat over coffee with an old friend you just ran into. Things don’t always go to plan, and you don’t want to be stuck with a sticky child because they spilt their juice all over themselves and you don’t have any wet wipes. Always pack more than you think you’ll need. Clothes, bibs, nappies, activities, snacks etc, will all come in handy when out with your child.

Make sure you have a backpack that is big enough for all of your essentials. You don’t want to be carrying around three different bags for one trip. You want a one-stop-shop that has everything from your wallet to their nappies. Happy packing!
